Can I use my Direct Express card as a credit card?
The Direct Express card is not a credit card and can only be used if you have money in your account. The Direct Express card is designed to work exactly like a debit card from any bank, with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insuring your money up to the maximum amount that the law allows.
Why can’t I use my Direct Express card?
First, the most likely reason why your Direct Express Card is not working is due to fraudulent or suspicious transactions on your card. When Direct Express detects that there have been suspicious transactions on your debit card, they may temporarily block all new transactions on the card until they speak with you.
Is Direct Express MasterCard a credit card?

Is the Direct Express Debit Mastercard issued by Comerica?
You have requested to receive certain federal government benefits by a Direct Express ® Debit Mastercard ® Card (“Card”) issued by Comerica Bank (“us, we”), rather than receiving a check or direct deposit to your checking or savings account. If you do not agree to accept the Card under these Terms, do not activate your Card.
Can you close a direct express account at any time?
Yes. You may close your Direct Express ® card account at any time at no charge by calling the Direct Express® card Customer Service Department number listed on the back of your card. Before closing your Direct Express ® card account, you will need to separately enroll in direct deposit to avoid any delays with receiving future benefit payments.
