Social Security’s work incentives and Ticket to Work programs can help you if you’re working or interested in working. Special rules make it possible for people receiving Social Security disability benefits or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments to work and still receive monthly payments.
Do you have to be a full time employee to get a disability plan?
Full-Time Work. Most employer-sponsored LTD plans require that you’re a full-time employee at the time you become disabled. “Full-time” is usually defined as working at least 30 or 35 hours a week, but check your particular LTD policy to be sure.
When do you qualify for partial disability benefits?
If your LTD policy provides for “partial disability,” you may qualify for benefits if you can no longer work full-time at your own occupation, even if you’re capable of working full- or part-time at another job.
What happens when you stop getting Social Security disability?
If your Social Security disability benefits stop because of your earnings, but you’re still disabled, your free Medicare Part A coverage will continue for at least 93 months after the nine-month trial work period. After that, you can buy Medicare Part A coverage by paying a monthly premium.
Is there a work period for Social Security disability?

What happens if you stop working because of SSDI?
Following your trial work period, if your SSDI payments have stopped because your income is “substantial,” the SSA gives you five years during which your benefits can be reinstated if you again stop working because of your disability.
Do you get SSDI if you work during Twp?
During the TWP, you’ll receive full SSDI benefit payments no matter how much you earn – as long as you report your work activity and you continue to meet Social Security’s rules for disability. Each month counts separately, they don’t have to occur together.
